SiteGround Review 2023 : The Fastest Hosting

SiteGround is officially recommended by WordPress.org itself and it’s one among the simplest hosting providers that give speed and security at affordable prices. If you’re trying to find SSD storage which provides you quicker loading times alongside bulletproof security – SiteGround should be your top hosting choice.

We don’t work for SiteGround and that they aren’t sending us huge sponsorship checks monthly to market their service.

The reason that we like SiteGround is very much simple fast &best. Consistent with every quantifiable metric, they smoke the competition like Snoop Dogg (or is it Lion? I can’t remember) smokes California prime… ????

Outside of their main competitor – A2 hosting, BlueHost – there isn’t just a company company on the market which will complete with the sheer quality and value delivered by SiteGround’s abundant hosting services. With quite a decade of experience and over 2,000,000 domains under their supervision, we’ve watched SiteGround evolve over the years from ‘meh’ to ‘OMFREAKINGG!’

With data centers spread across Asia, North America, and Europe, SiteGround has experienced a meteoric rise to the highest in recent years and with good reason.

In this SiteGround review, we’ll peel back the layers of the proverbial onion to reveal all of the juicy details and numbers regarding why we love SiteGround such a lot in order that you’ll decide whether or not they’re the proper hosting service for your needs.

Let’s dive in.

Introduction to SiteGround:

In mid-2013, i used to be giving a presentation at a conference in Thailand and, after the curtains fell, I started talking to some of the attendees. some of them were extremely earnest, asking a great deal of technical questions on my business and hanging on nearly every word.

The guys in question were actually SiteGround employees and, after discussing my web agency and whitelabel team, they (obviously) recommended their service as an answer to the issues i used to be having with the present Canadian hosting services.

I’ll be completely honest. i used to be skeptical (to say the least). I’d tried such a lot of lackluster hosts within the past that I’d finally just conceded defeat and relegated myself to an eternity of crappy web hosts.

But, i actually clicked with the blokes I talked with and decided to provide them the advantage of the doubt. After two short months of using their services, I transitioned over 150 of my clients’ websites to SiteGround and haven’t looked back since.

SiteGround Pricing

Before I get into the advantages and disadvantages of this hosting provider, I figured it’s worth mentioning upfront that SiteGround billing options. SiteGround on the other hand offers the same promotional price for 1 year as for 3 years. I personally would choose the 3 year option if you have the means to afford it, because they provide fast & secure hosting with 99.99% uptime. SiteGround hosting is likely the best shared hosting you can find.

Most of the shared hosting environments (including hosting sites like Bluehost, HostGator etc) don’t provide faster website loading times because their servers are still outdated. Here’s where SiteGround stays way earlier than Bluehost as their shared hosting environment uses SSD servers (solid state drives) to provide you blazing fast loading times.

SSD Storage for all hosting plan

The best part is that SiteGround provides SSD servers to even shared hosting plans. That provide you affordable pricing plans starting from just $3.95 per month which is insane.

SITEGROUND UPTIME

The following data was collected over a ~12 month period from December 14, 2016 to January 13, 2019.

One of SiteGround’s biggest selling points is, without a doubt, the insanely reliable uptimes offered by their servers. Clocking in at 99.92% for their shared hosting service (a.k.a. the ‘cheap’ hosting), SiteGround doesn’t disappoint. These tests were conducted using their Chicago data center, and therefore the results were pretty darn good considering that there have been only 5 short outages over more than 2 years.

Testing & Review of SiteGround’s Downtime:

  • 4/28/2015 – 154 seconds
  • 10/4/2015 – 561 seconds
  • 11/11/2016 – 431 seconds
  • 2/3/2017 – 331 seconds
  • 2/4 2017 – 430 seconds

Here are some records of our 2018 uptime reports. As you can see, all of the ranges are between 99.9% and 100%.

NAME UPTIME RESPONSE TIME
December 2018 100% 674ms
November 2018 99.98% 685ms
October 2018 99.85% 688ms
September 2018 100% 708ms
August 2018 99.97% 694ms
July 2018 99.99% 740ms
June 2018 100% 686ms
May 2018 100% 352ms
April 2018 99.98% 383ms
March 2018 100% 382ms

This test is specifically from Toronto and was tested monthly on the 23rd of every month last year (as you’ll see within the image above).

I think it’s pretty safe to say with downtimes as short as these, you won’t need to worry about your website for more than a few (561 to be precise) seconds.

Here’s another screenshot of our dashboard showing the uptime of each individual site/host over the past few years. Pretty solid.

One of the interesting conundrums of reviewing web host companies is that a lot of readers (errantly) assume that local data centers will always trump data centers stationed overseas or in an adjacent country. And it’s easy to ascertain why.

The proximity of a data center goes an extended way in determining the speed with which your website data are going to be delivered to your audience. The closer the middle is to your end users, the less distance the data has got to travel, and therefore the faster delivery (should) be. However, it’s important to understand that, with regards to data centers, quality trumps proximity.

Unfortunately, Canadian data centers are still working to rise to the growing demand. While they’re leaps and bounds before Australian (sorry mates) and lots of Asian data centers, they still tend to believe unreliable and out of date software making them less effective than their us counterparts.

Luckily, SiteGround’s North American data centers are located in Chicago and deliver incredibly fast speeds to the country’s Northern neighbors (a.k.a. YOU!)

Here are a number of our test results from Toronto and Montreal:

If that isn’t enough to sell you on SiteGround’s speeds, then here are a few more tests that we ran throughout 2017 and 2018 from 5 different locations across Canada.

  • July average speed: 314ms
  • June average speed: 302ms
  • May average speed: 283ms
  • April average speed: 333ms
  • March average speed: 312ms

To someone all about speed, you might want something faster. If this isn’t impressive at all, then you’ll be glad to know that they decided to break their own record with the new version of the SG Optimizer plugin.

This tool allows WordPress websites to further improve speeds by as much as 30% with their improved Memcached support and dynamic cache purging.

Web Hosting Support

Bluehost, A2 Hosting simply can’t compare to the support that SiteGround provides for their clints. SiteGround’s live chat is almost instant, and it’s someone who knows what to do and provides a quick, accurate response and solution. No matter how many features a hosting company gives, if support is not well, you will begin to feel the service itself is no good. Bluehost support on the other hand is good to an extent, but you will not be as satisfied with Bluehost support as with SiteGround.
